Robert Officer of Rocklands & Family

 

Robert Officer of Rocklands was born 14th March, 1825 at New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia.  He was the first son of 14 children of Sir Robert and Lady Jamima Officer née Patterson.  He married Martha Read on 7th May, 1851 in Tasmania and they had 7 sons and 3 daughters.  She was the daughter of Captain George Frederick Read and his second wife, Margaret Terry.  Martha Read was born in Hobart, Tasmania 1832 (christened on 3 June, 1832) and died at Lindisfarne, Tasmania on 18 November, 1917.  She is buried with her husband in the St. Kilda General Cemetery, Melbourne.  Robert died 25th August, 1881 at "Greenbank", Berwick, Victoria.

Dr. William Holdsworth Macfarlane, a Medical Superintendent at New Norfolk Mental Hospital, husband Margaret Officer. Dr. William Holdsworth Macfarlane and Rose, the house cow at Frescati. Frank Suetonius Officer, 1888, fifth son Robert Officer of 'Rocklands' and Martha Officer née Read. Edith Mabel Officer born in 1868 in Melbourne and died, unmarried, on 21 January, 1950 in Tasmania, was the third daughter of Robert Officer of 'Rocklands' and Martha Officer née Read.

 

Alexander William Officer born on 22 June, 1877 and died on 8 July, 1929, was the seventh and youngest son of Robert Officer of 'Rocklands' and Martha Officer née Read. Georgina Martha Officer, youngest daughter of Robert Officer of 'Rocklands' and Martha Officer née Read. On right is Harold Hale who married Georgina Martha Officer. Grace with her niece and nephew, Hugh & Elsie Officer at Hallgreen, 1924.

The three remaining children of James Reed Officer and Maud Margaret Officer née Smith, from L-R Lorraine Maud Officer, Philip Langley Officer and Eila Aubrey Officer. Their brother, Mervyn Officer died as a child. Philip Langley Officer born on 10 March 1894 and died in 1963 was second son of James Read Officer and Maud Margaret Officer née Smith. James was the third son of Robert Officer of 'Rocklands' and Martha Officer née Read. Philip Langley Officer at right in back row, 15th Battery Officers taken in Belguim c1919.
