The Forsters of North America
| Charles Vaughan Forster, the only son of Vaughan Forster and Anne Cameron, was born 20 September, 1798 at Berwick-upon-Tweed. He enlisted in the Navy and from 1819-20 he was the 6th Officer H.C. ship "Marquis of Wellington", a ship of the East India Company. On 24 September, 1824 he arrived in the Caribbean where he was employed in H.M. Customs at St George, Bermuda. On 17 November, 1825 he married at Berwick-upon-Tweed, Jane Dickson the daughter of Patrick Dickson and Jane Alder and then returned to the Caribbean with his wife where she bore him 3 of their 7 children - Dorothy Ann, Vaughan and Thomas Alder Dickson. With his family, he sailed for Canada and on 18 January, 1833 he took up an appointment with H.M. Customs at St Andrews, New Brunswick where his other children, Charles Cameron, Patrick John William, William Dickson and Donald Cameron were all born. During the 1840’s the family moved to St John, New Brunswick where he died on 20 August, 1860 then followed by his wife on 22 July, 1876. |
