McDougall, Rae & Tough Families

 

Charles McDougall, JP a green grocer of Sydney Road, Brunswick, was born at Tarbet, Argyleshire, England in 1926.  His parents were Charles McDougall, farrier, and Mary Watson.  He married Helen Tough on 2nd April, 1857 in Ryrie Street, Geelong and had six children (two died young).  Mary Helen Forster née McDougall was their youngest surviving daughter.  Click HERE to see the Gallery of Mary Helen Forster.  Charles McDougall died on 13th October, 1907 and is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.

Helen Tough, born 23rd May, 1825 at Greenock, Scotland, emigrated on the Allerton arriving Geelong in October, 1853 with her mother and four siblings.  Her father, a sailmaker, and younger brother Daniel had sailed to Geelong on the Sappho the pervious year.  Her parents were Daniel Tough and Jane Menzies and her father's parents were Alexander Tough and Eleanor Carson.  Her mother's parents were Robert Menzies and Ann McAlister.  Helen died 27th May, 1925 and is buried with her husband.

Jean Menzies McDougall, daughter of Charles and Helen McDougall and sister of Mary Helen Forster, married William Gladstone Rae a school teacher.  They had no children.
