Captain George Frederick Read (1788 - 1860)

 

Captain George Frederick Read, born in London on 29th September, 1788. He married (1) Elizabeth Driver at St. Philip's, Sydney ) and they had one son, G. F. Read junior (1817-54) a pioneer at Port Phillip, and two daughters.  Elizabeth died on 19th August, 1821.  On 24th November, 1824 at St. David's, Hobart he married Margaret Terry (1800-1889), daughter of John Terry, a flour-miller of New Norfolk, Tasmania.  By his second marriage he had six sons and four daughters.  One of these daughters was Martha, born in Hobart Tasmania in 1832 who on 7th May, 1851 married Robert Officer of Rocklands.  Click HERE to see the Gallery of Robert Officer of Rocklands and his Family.  Captain George Frederick Read died at his home, "Leyburne", New Town, Tasmania on 23rd July, 1860.
