Edward William Umphelby (1784 - 1871) and his Family

 

Edward William Umphelby was born in  England on 24 September, 1784 and was the fourth child and third son born to William Umphelby (31/10/1748-09/10/1804) and Elizabeth Umphelby née Williams (who died in September, 1787).  Edward married Sarah Letts, daughter of Thomas Letts and Ann Letts née Martin on 25 May, 1811 at the Holy Trinity Church, Clapham, Surrey, England.  Sarah was born in London, England on 8 January, 1789.  Edward and Sarah had nine children, Edward William, Sarah, Lauriston, Thomas Letts, Ann, John Henry, Emma, Charles Washington and Sophia.  Edward died on 2 October, 1871 at his home "Lothian Cottage", George Street, East Melbourne, Australia and was buried in Melbourne General Cemetery.  Sarah died on 10 January, 1845 at St. Brieuc, Brittany.
