Donald Cameron of Lochiel (1697 - 1748)
19th Chief of Clan Cameron
| Donald 'the Gentle' Cameron of Lochiel (born circa 1697 and died 26 or 28 October, 1748 in Bergues, France) was the son of John Cameron, 18th Chief of Clan Cameron, and Isabel Campbell (daughter of Alexander Campbell 6th of Lochnell). Donald married Anne Campbell (daughter of Sir James Campbell of Auchinbreck, Bart and Janet MacLeod) in 1729 and they had nine children with their first son, John Cameron (born 1732), becoming the 20th Lochiel. On the death of John Cameron on 5 November, 1762, his brother, Charles Cameron (born circa 1747/48), became the 21st Chief of Clan Cameron of Lochiel. Charles and his wife, Martha Marshall (daughter of Robert Marshall), had six children with their fourth child being Anne Cameron (born 18 April, 1773). Anne married Vaughan Forster (born 7 February, 1773) on 9 September, 1796 at Berwick, England. Anne and Vaughan's son was Charles Vaughan Forster, the father of Charles Cameron Forster. |
