Charles Cameron Forster & Family

 

Charles Cameron Forster, Chemist, was born 9th April, 1833 and Christened 10 July, 1833 at St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada.  He was the fourth of the seven children of Charles Vaughan Forster whose parents were Vaughan Forster and Anne Cameron, the daughter of the XXI Chief of the Clan Lochiel.  Charles Cameron’s mother was Jane Dickson the daughter of Peter Dickson and Dorothy Alder.

Charles Cameron arrived in Melbourne in November, 1852 aboard the Epaminondas.  He married Mary Annie Grafton on 17 January, 1866 at Cathcart, Victoria and died while visiting his son in Perth on 20 November, 1901.  Mary Annie was born 3 September, 1844 at Dawley Green, Staffordshire, England, the daughter of John Henry Grafton and Louisa Jones and died 30 April, 1901 at Brunswick, Melbourne.  Charles and Mary had 9 children:

1. Dora Louise was born 21 December, 1866 at Moyston and died 15 March, 1877 at Stawell.
2. Edith Jane born 2 March, 1868 at Moyston.  She was married on 1 February, 1891 at Abbortsford to Francis Leopold Tymms, born 1867 at Morses Creek, Victoria the son of Henry Jacob Thomas Tymms and Agnes Petrie.  Edith Jane died 18 April, 1891 at Horsham.

4. Donald Cameron was born 29 August, 1870 at Moyston and died the same day.
5. Winfred Voce born 13 September, 1871 at Ararat.  She was married on 3 April, 1901 at Applecross, Perth to Arthur Edward Rout, born 9 September, 1866 in Tasmania, the son of Edward Rout and Mary Ann Wills.  Winifred Voce died in Perth.
6. Effie May Bliss was born 21 December, 1875 at Stawell.  She was married to Arthur Moore.
7. Iva Alder Lee was born 28 November, 1877 at Stawell.  She was married in 1902 at Applecross to Arthur Owsley Legge, born c 1882 at Swan, Vic, the son of Samuel Legge and Hetty Isabella Messenger.
8. Amy Irene Proctor (Daisy) was born 28 July, 1880 at Stawell.  She was married to Cecil Davies.
9. Cassy Cameron was born on 28 November, 1881 at Stawell and died 4 April, 1882 at Stawell.

Dorothy Forster of Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland.  A distant relation.  This portrait hangs in the Castle, see picture below.

 

Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland. The Forster family provided the Crown with twelve successive govenors of the castle for some 400 years until the Crown granted ownership to Sir John Forster in c1200. It was held by the family until the early 1700s.
